Is there a single file one can create that will contain video plus decoded (5.1/7.1/xx.1) audio (from a Tetramic/VVMic) apart from 5.1 Dolby?

I find 5.1 Dolby recorded to dvd or bd and created using my Vegas NLE has a huge hole at the rear plus muddy or very vague positioning of sounds in the front. (I can't afford to pay the $2000 for software to encode 7.1 Dolby).

I have these past few days been able to get rather nice surround sound from my Tetramic/VVMic decoding to 7.1 as mono files and then using Reaper to play those mono files to my 7.1 home audio via the 8 TRS outputs of my old MOTU Traveller. A recorded walk round of my Tetramic follows beautifully around my listening position with no holes anywhere even in the back when played back from Reaper. Encouraging. But - this is audio only - and a long and rather complicated setup required to play back in Reaper.

So - Is there a single file I can create in my NLE (Vegas) that will give me video plus the rather nice surround sound I get from Reaper plus 8 direct outputs from the Traveller?
And what software do I use to play this single file with its video + 8 sound
tracks back?

TIA.
Bill

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
