Hello everyone,

I'd like to introduce you a free Max-based software named HULTI-GEN
(Huddersfield Universal Listening Test Interface Generator), which we developed
to assist researchers and students who conduct listening tests. It's a fully
customisable GUI generator that supports up to 28-channels of wav file. It was
written on MAX7, and you need to have MAX7 installed to run the software, but
it runs without a MAX license. I guess some of you are already using the beta
version that we released at the 138th AES convention in 2015. We now release
the Version 1.0, which can be downloaded from the link below.

The software package zip file includes a full manual and a quick start guide
for multiple comparison.

Below is a brief description about the software.

HULTI-GEN takes user-defined parameters (e.g. the type of scale, the number of
trials and stimuli, randomisation, settings for reference and anchors, etc.)
and automatically constructs a GUI suitable for the requirement of the
listening test. This allows the user to quickly create various types of
multiple and pair-wise comparison test environments. To assist the user,
HULTI-GEN also provides a number of presets based on ITU-R recommended methods
such as MUSHRA and ABC/HR. The user can also flexibly edit these presets to
adjust the recommended methods for different test requirements (e.g., adding
audible anchors, removing hidden reference, etc.). Subject's responses are
saved as a text file, which can be easily imported into Excel for data
analysis. HULTI-GEN supports the playback of multichannel wav. file of up to 28
channels, which is useful for multichannel 3D sound quality evaluations.

In the future we are planning to release Ver 2 including psychometric methods
such as transformed staircase (e.g. 2 up 1 down) and adaptive method of
adjustment.

I hope this tool becomes useful to the community. Any feedbacks and
suggestions for future updates would be appreciated.

Best wishes,
Hyunkook
