Hi Augustine, BMB con. https://vimeo.com/bmbcon (the group I work with) have in our "extensive library of vintage electronics" a custom 4 into 4 analogue panner based on 4 joysticks, presumably sourced from games. It was built around 1985 for the performance group Fabricata Illuminata, we used to do immersive live performances with quad sound systems. https://nickcopefilm.com/category/fabricata-illuminata/ I remember at some point discussing a tetrahedral PA, which the panner would have had trouble with, obviously.
