REAL VIRUS ALERT REAL VIRUS ALERT NOT A JOKE
=============================================================
This one is NO JOKE . Unlike "Good Times and PenPal" this one
really does exist. There is a major computer virus which was
launched this past weekend called "Mailissa" or "Melissa"
You may CONFIRM this with the Computer Virus authorities below
US Dept of Energy Computer Incident Advisory Committee
http://www.ciac.org/ciac/bulletins/j-037.shtml
Symantec
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/mailissa.html
McAfee
http://vil.mcafee.com/vil/vm10120.asp
If you use Outlook(and possibly other email programs,) it
will send a message to the top 50 people on your list.
It will not erase your hard drive, it is basically harmless,
and is designed to shut down email servers
HOW IT WORKS:
=============
Copied from the US Dept of Energy Computer Incident
Advisory Committee
1. If you receive an e-mail with the following subject
and body, DO NOT OPEN the attachment.
Subject: Important Message From (someone you know)
Body: Here is that document you asked for ...
don't show anyone else
2. Make sure the sender is someone you know and then ask
them if they really sent you the attachment before opening it.
3. If they did not send it, DO NOT open the attachment and
contact your computer security manager. The most common
name for the attached file is "list1.doc"
but that name can change.
NOTE: If you forward this message to friends, make sure
you include all of the information above, including the
URLS of the verifying sources so your friend will know
that this is real.
