No, it only has better implementation, the algorith, I think that is
the same.

About the GUI, I look the command line enviroment!

Well, there's the extended FCBS bug in the wipe-option that should be
corrected. And, it could be nice if DR-DOS password were supported.

And why not adding that LFN option while at that, anyway?
I know I could really use that. Or etleast support for WinZip files.
Still having trouble to open that stuff. with PkZip.

So much for trimming that line from quoted replies.
Anyway, You can always use unzip from the gnu project. It's free, comes
with source code, and as far as I've tested, it handles most zip files
without blinking.
Pkzip doesn't support long file names, and drdos passwording, because that
would make it spacific to a single version of dos (not a good thing (tm))
So, I say again, there really isn't any need for a upgrade to the dos
version, especially since it already uses ems and expanded memory (if
available) to handle larger archives, so a protected mode implementation
would gain them nothing. The only thing I could see making a release for
would be to map those long filenames to short 8.3 ones automatically if
lfn wasn't supported on the extraction platform. However, since I have
linux installed, that's not a problem for me, I simply extract them to
linux, rename them and recompress them for download. I can see where that
would be handy for strictly dos users though, very much like tar does
under dos.

Using all the memory available under protected mode is generally much
faster than use it throught XMS or EMS...

Okay, my shadow site is ready for viewing. Haven't got the galleria built
yet, it's gonna be big and will take a lot of time to create.
The ftp site is up though. A friend found me a fantastic little utility
that allows you to use your computer as an ftp server. So, I've got a
little partition sectioned off and I'm eagerly awaiting uploads and dowloads!
The links area is also quite large and has a good variety of links that
have been tested in the last 30 days.
Oh, and when you go, bring your 3d blue/red glasses, the main page is in 3d
  hee hee
http://members.home.net/anarkissed/001.html
The site has also passed the "bobcat" test, that is to say, my 286 can surf
there using bobcat, and use all the links and even ftp from my 586. hehe,
that was funny, ftping from downstairs over the phone to upstairs over the
cable.
I would appreciate anyone with files in the abandonware/old dos type range
to upload to my drive so as to expand the resource.
There's also a complete setup collection for O/S2 v1.1 and borland sidekick
in /opersys/Os2/
as well as some simple screensavers for dos. If desired, I can put in some
fancy psychedelic programs for dos that could be used as screen savers.
Only one of the savers in there, apiblank, is TSR.

But there's nothing wrong with 2.04g.

It doesn't need a new version!

Most unfortunate you don't get the originators name so you could
publicly acknowledge their immaturity.

For some being a vandal is "fun". For the recipient it is less than
funny.

I may sound a bit grouchy, however, it is rarely the vandals financial
resources nor their time recourses that are put forward to help any
group with a common interest.

I could say a lot more impolite things but it is best left unsaid.

Travis, thanks for making this information exchange service reliable and
well run.

Well, i'm glad you see where it can come handy on DOS, since right now
I dont have Linux.. and that includes many other DOS users as well.
When I said "LFN support" I ment to exactly what you said. I guess
I should have described better. Anyway, there is still that bugs that
should also be solved. And getting it to work in protected mode is
also a good idea.

BTW talking CPU modes, I heard that the new Intel chip got a new mode
besides "Real mode" and "Protected mode". Forgot what it was, though.

Norton Utilities for Windows 95 also got versions for DOS included.
Cant the new versions encrypt the harddisk as well?

Somewhere might say [EMAIL PROTECTED] but Michael hasn't had time
to fully setup the arachne.cz server...

Try selecting 256 colours for now. The worst that will happen is that
Arachne will crash and you'll reboot and type setup and try a
different setting. The 640x480 in 16 will almost definately work,
640x480-256 should, 800x600-256 may, 640x480-64k could.

Have you seen the 2.5? It needs W-NT/W9x and is CLI!! 2.6 is
graphical but not as good as WinZip imho.

A port to DOS 2.5 should not be hard at all.

I think its slightly different as you have to specify -204 on the
command line to make sure the resulting zip will work with 2.04g.

G'day Per,

You wrote:

> six of them) in a different way for EGA, but how?

Headland Technologies (the makers of Video Seven) were bought out by
another company several years ago; and the new owners refuse to provide
any details for "obsolete products". I speak from unhappy experience,
so I was forced to experiment with my specimens.

My Video Seven cards have a group of 6 DIP switches plus a
few jumper blocks and connectors:

- a 16x2 female connection (no idea what it's for).

- a 6x1 male connection for a light-pen.

- a pair of jumper switches next to the above, labelled "FOSC"
and "FCLK". Don't seem to do anything on my specimens but I don't
  have a light-pen anyway.

- some cards have a second 6x1 male connection with pin 5 missing.
  Alternative light-pen??

- jumper switches "P1" and "P8" (near centre of card) apparently
control the video memory. P1 may be labelled "2xx" (pins 1-2) and
  "3xx" (pins 2-3) and P8 is labelled "32K" (pins 1-2) and "16K" (pins
2-3). Leave these on 32K and 3xx unless you have odd hardware.

- jumper switch "P2" enables (pins 1-2) or disables (pins 2-3) the
card's video ROM. Leave it enabled.

- jumper switch "P6" may also be labelled "CD/MD" or "MONTYPE". This
is used with the DIP switch settings to select your display type.
CD/MD (pins 1-2) is for Hercules mono, CGA and (I think) 64kB EGA.
Pins 2-3 are for VGA and newer EGA monitors. Some Video Sevens have
this wired to an external switch for convenience.

- 8-bit cards also have a jumper "P3" which may be labelled "SLOT8".
This is only important if you're installing into an XT - the expansion
slot nearest the power supply is electrically distinct from the other
seven slots. I left mine on pins 2-3.

If you're wondering how to distinguish pins 1-2 from pins 2-3, my
conventions are:
- horizontal jumpers: 1-2 is furthest from the monitor plugs
- vertical jumpers: 1-2 is closest to the card's expansion slot connections.

The DIP switches work as follows (1=on 0=off x=doesn't matter):

------------ 1 -- 2 -- 3 -- 4 -- 5 -- 6
Hercules 0 0 1 1 x x
CGA 1 0 0 0 x x
EGA 0 1 1 1 0 x
EGA enhanced 0 1 1 0 1 x
VGA 1 1 1 1 0 x
VGA enhanced 1 1 1 1 1 x
