Yep. I have (as mentioned in my recent post) one machine
which always runs VGA and Herc at the same time. I
actually have a new one which also has two video cards,
and it is running freeBSD, but I haven't figured out how
to take advantage of it in that OS yet.
  You can always plug both cards in at the same time. Just
beware that some bioses have a function for remapping the
mono addresses and you need to turn that off or there will
be a conflict in some situations. Also, memory handlers
like emm386.exe can specify the mono range for use by
something else, so don't do that.
  I have done this many times and have yet to see smoke.
A few mono cards _do_ use an extended range though, and
those won't work.
  Anyway, it's a cool trick. Try it, you'll like it. <g>
