So Micro$oft's solution was to make the W98 machines totally unlike the
earlier user screen syntax.

Now that is a fascinating "solution". I wonder who arrived at that piece
of user interface design. Obviously they got some flak over it or they
would not have an "Enables" version too.

I suggest you see if Alan Cooper can be coaxed into commenting [inventor

IF you get anything from either of them, ask if they would share with
all of us. I'm always interested in why a radical shift in user
interface is done by a developer of technology.

Goes back to my few experiences with right-hand-drive (RHD) cars on the
California highways. I liked to scared myself big time with my RHD
Austin 4-door sedan :-/ Great economy car, but really weird to deal with
for anything other than an excursion when you had your driving wits
about ya :-)) I passed on driving in England when we had a 20 hour stop
over a couple years ago. I was an admitted coward. Even thought I had
just spent a week driving in Turkey and thought it was fun/scary/crazy
and want to go back there again.
