HI, The DOS error and "cannot make directory entry" message may have ben
generated by the fact that the directory manager does not like the idea of
making a directory called,
filename.zip
where filename is the name of the zip file. ONe of the long-standing tricks
for a speed-up to a Windows 3.X installation was to copy all the files from
all the windows distribution disks into a temporary directory on a hard disk
and running it all from that one directory. By reading from a faster hard
drive and not changing floppies, the installation would fly, relatively
speaking. Of course, YOu would need to have enough disk space for about 8MB
to about 12MB of temporary installation files, plus room for Windows and any
temporary work space the installation routine would need. The reason I said
8-12MB of disk space for the temporary directory is that it depends on
whether you are installing the six-disk Windows 3.10 or 3.11, or the
eight-disk Windows 3.10 for WorkGroups, or the 3.11 for WorkGroups. Each
disk is 1.44MB and most of them are nearly, or completely, full of data.
