Thanks for pointing that out, because the 486 on which I'm writing this to
you was from Computer Renaissance.  And yes, they *did* have MS-DOS 6.22
and Windows 3.1 installed on it (despite my wishes that there be *no*
operating system with it), and they did not offer any software manuals
with it.  Of course, I immediately erased the hard drive and installed my
own legitimate version of PC DOS 7, after which I added Red Hat Linux.
That would probably satisfy Microsoft's wishes as far as my personal
responsibility in the matter is concerned (and besides, I still have
registered versions of their OSes).

They could have saved themselves a lot of trouble by allowing their
customers a choice of software and simply add that to the cost.  There are
even free OSes to choose from... ;-)
