Right then, here I go replying to my own message, BEFORE I've even sent it ;-) Seems I may have found the answer to both problems on my wooden PC. Security.bin (+r +s +h) was missing from my root directory...I found out because my laptop runs DR DOS 7.02 and it has the pretty password screen...there it was, SECURITY.BIN on it and not on my wooden PC. What I'm more interested in is how it got deleted? Like I said, I can only think of a DISKOPT that I cancelled properly, and on the next reboot it wasn't there. I may also be a bit vague on when I did a CHKDSHK /F finding quite a few cross linked files...but I had a look at them and dont recall finding security.bin...although I had a look at it just then and it doesnt really say much about security in the actuall file. The other problem of freezing I think I can put down to Desktop 2 (grrrr Desktop!) I've been using Desktop 2 for a year now, and it's great...but it seems to have these intermittant freezing, even within programs being run from it...which dont freeze when run straight from the prompt. Interesting...maybe Desktop 2 isnt using memory properly, and my 386 with 4Mb RAM just doesnt seem to get along with it at all. On Wednesday, "Pop" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> typed: ] Hmmm, wooden PC seems to have some strange quirks. ] ] Certain programs seem to freeze where they never have on other PCs. ] ] I have a feeling it's either a memory problem, or maybe a CPU over ] heating, although I doubt the latter since it's an AMD 386 DX-40...I ] will test the memory. ] ] And another strange one...I have DR DOS 7.02 on it, and I use the ] Security on it...but for some reason instead of giving me the nice Dr ] DOS Security password screen, it just says "Master key:" in the top ] left of the screen. ] ] It started doing it after I did a DISKOPT (like DEFRAG) and cancelled ] it half way through... ] ] After it started doing it, I disabled it, then added the 7.03 file ] updates and reenabled it and it's the same.
