I agree. cost $19.99 (US) at Border's, and probably Walden,
Barnes & Noble, and lots of other places. Installation is relatively
painless and appears to be pretty thorough although it takes maybe 3
hours. I have heard good things about Star Office, although I haven't
gotten that far. The package also includes Netscape and the KDE window
manager for the XWindow (which makes MS Windows 9+ look pale by
comparison) and the LILO boot manager. It also appears to integrate
DRDOS into its DOSEmulation, and Caldera offers DRDOS for free to
registered OpenLinux users. See http://www.caldera.com for details.
This does appear to be a full OpenLinux distribution and apparently
was not crippled or customized for the book.
No, I don't work for Caldera. I use DRDOS and like it. One word or two
of caution. The book calls for a DOS boot sector and then additional
harddrive space of 540+ MEGs (480 for program files, the rest for swap
files and data files) and the book also recommends at least 32 meg of
RAM. While these can be fudged with smaller installations, this is not
a small package, certainly not if one is used to DOS.
