I don't know of any early pages still in their original form.  HTML was
invented by Tim Berners-Lee, who at the time was a nuclear physicist at
the CERN labs (Switzerland) during the 1980's.  He wanted to create an
easy but effective technique for online publishing, that would be
accessible to a simple "reader" program on any Unix terminal.

Although there were several Unix publishing applications already in
existence (eg TeX ane SGML) Tim considered these to be too complex for
his needs. He produced a winner and HTML 1.0 was formally defined in (I
think) 1989.  The rest is history.

Sometimes I wonder what Tim thinks of the subsequent development of HTML
and the various attempts by certain companies to "improve" it.

Interesting how some aspects of computing never change.  I was cleaning
out the filing cabinet last week and found an 11 year old memo; warning
employees not to install games on the company PCs because of "the high
risk of malicious and/or destructive programs".
