Hi David, }- }- I have quite an elaborate desktop set up for Arachne that }- }- will launch all my apps, beautiful graphics, etc, but I }- }- just use it to impress on people that DOS is just as }- }- powerful and pretty as Windows. It works though, never }- }- fails to impress them ;) }- This is quite interesting. I'd like more details on how you }- do this, if you don't mind. Well it's simple really.... First you should read files in the subdirectory OOPS off the main Arachne directory. These give a rudimentary explaination of how to use .ook files (which are really just batch files with the extension .ook for safety sake) to launch programs. You may have to experiment a little and also make modifications to the wwwman.cfg file - be sure to back up the original wwwman.cfg first in case you mess up as this file is very important to some of Arachne's functions like email etc. Then read the files (in the main Arachne directory) ahtml40.txt and aexthtml.txt and see the files in the EXAMPLES directory, both as Arachne displays them and the source. Almost anything you can do in HTML, you can do with Arachne. Then it's just a matter of designing the page and writing the HTML file that is your main desktop. I have put together several "desktop themes" with background wallpaper, icons, etc that work just like a Windoze desktop, click on an icon and launch my text editor, budget spread sheet, get directories, etc, etc. Also several other non-themed pages with beautiful graphics, icons etc. People, especially those who have never seen anything but Windoze are really amazed that this can be done in DOS.
