Thanks for that info - I might have an extra modem laying around. How
do I get it set up (COM port, base address, IRQ, etc.) and get that
AT&T 6300 to recognize it?

On same date, thanx to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for info on possible "Radio
Shack PC-generic version of Deskmate". Also to Pete for tip on "a dos
gui called icon shell". I'll look it up.

I have Read Right 2.01 for DOS, READ-IT 1.1 by OLDUVAI, and CAERE's
OMNIPAGE/386 Version 2.0 for DOS. All do a fair to good job at OCRing
a scanned text file I may have on disk, but *none* of them will actually
operate my scanner, or let me use it, because they all want to know
what type of "scanner card" I have! Answering "none" doesn't work, nor
does trying to fool them by selecting one of the cards from their lists.
Apparently all (that I know of) scanners today require a TWAIN driver,
and as we know, "This program requires Microsoft Windows".
Maybe we need a DOS TWAIN driver? Sorry to mislead everyone into
thinking I needed DOS OCR and image-editing software - I have them.
What I need is a way to actually *operate* my scanner from DOS, for
either text or graphics, and capture the resultant file to disk. BTW -
my scanner is a Mustek III EP flat bed with a parallel port interface.
(Yeah, I know. I'll never buy another one.)
