I have a 386 machine that I intended to use as a datalogger.
I built an ADC that uses the parallel port for data input.
Initially everthing worked fine but the second time I used
the ADC there was no response- checking the PC showed that
both the parallel and serial port (on the same card) were
being reported as not present. Thinking that the ADC had
somehow blown up the parallel/serial port I installed another
(new) port card using IRQ 7 and address 378h or 278h. Using
either the old or new card neither the BIOS diagnostics, the
MSD utility nor the QAPLUS utility report any parallel or serial
cards installed. Does this mean that some hardware on the
motherboard has gone bad? By the way the VGA card and a game port
card still work fine.
