Thinking about it, making PADDs is allready possible today.
We got the technology. After all what is this thing, anyway?
Its a sort of a text-reader, which can also show inline images.
I'll say, it can use something like an HTML.
The PADD itself seems to be a simple text-reader, based on
mobile palm-sized network terminal technology. As long as it remains
just a text/html reader with a small file storge capacity, it might
be even cheap to create. Think about the PalmPilot and the rest
of the Palm-sized PCs and dumb-terminals we got around latly.
It can be designed to use short-range radio communication..
(ir infra-red or something), using radio LAN or intranet.
So far they said that reading books using computers is not comfortable,
because of the large screen or the way Laptops are. But having a PADD
like this can change it. (Though I would still prefer a good ol'
made-of-paper-or-something-like-it book.)
