I still wondered what had been used on the hard drive I had in this box
when it arrived. It offered 800MB of space, and was loaded with DOS 6.22
and Win3.1
Eventually I did a format on it, and set it as a slave drive and was
surprised to find only 400MB on it. I assumed some sort of compression was
used but never investigated further (had a lot else to keep me going)
Even so, that system was delightfully stable the whole year I used it.
Since then I do not compress hard drives as I feel at the least it would
wear out the mechanics to have to dance that hard. If it had been built
that way, you'd not have to use compression in the first place!
