Yes, a true operating system with it's own kernal and file format (VLIR). You
may be surprised to know that development continues on several fronts on the
C64 and C128 version. No URLs off the top of my head, but a quick search on
any search engine will lead you to loads of links.

GeoShell was the CLI for Geos64. Never used it myself.

Yeah, but it would fly on well written ML (machine language).

NewDeal still has on their web site (well at least 1 or 2 years ago) a
Geos64<->PCGeos file conversion utility that runs on the C64 to convert
certain data files to a format compatible with PCGeos. It is hard to kill a
good machine (C64) or a good OS (Geos).
