John, I have read that even the original bipolar device (PNP, NPN, PN diodes
and transistors) CAN be damaged by static discharge. Have you ever
encountered this situation in your 31 years of teching? There is one modern
solid state device (not computer related) that is VERY static sensitive. I am
referrring to laser diodes (used in CD/CDROM players). The industry I work in
uses these devices extensively and we have to practice ESD (ElectroStatic
Damage) prevention ruthlessly or they will be rendered useless.
