I suppose > it's news readers you're looking for. Have a poke around the KA9Q world. By the nature of KA9Q, all of the news and mail readers for it are offline and several are free and do both. PCElm, based upon BM, is the original mail reader and just about the only mail-only reader, but it's a small mailbase thing. Still widely used, but moribund by the look of it and the source isn't freely available. Snews is the original News reader and it's just about the quickest thing you can find, with well developed threading and the ability to be used as a mail reader. Still evolving and source available. Other well known ones are Cheetah Pro (great mailer, so-so news reader), Cppmail and Umail. So far as I know, all are moribund and I've yet to hear of any source appearing. The last two are s/w, the rest mentioned free. There are more exotic options and things like Pegasus are often pressed into service. It's the news readers which are the clever ones, especially if you want threading and newsgroups several thousand posts strong, but mailers, unless you want to keep a massive mailbase, are trivial and lots of people write their own in everything under the sun, inc script languages.
