Hallo !

I just wanted to tell you about a place where Windows can be used, too.
In ticket machines at railway stations.
The german railways installed new ticket machines here, one type for
long-distance travels and another for local travels.
The long-distance machines have a touchscreen (that works not really
good and has to be cleaned often), a card reader and a thermo printer.
So you can only pay with cards. Luckily enough you enter your PIN on a
special pinpad, not connected to Win, i hope. These machines are found
in groups so that at least one is working... They crash quite often, and
there is no reset button to be used by customers.
The short-distance ticket machine here is showing a greenish (Win98
standard) background and a mouse pointer for two days now.

I wonder what processing power is wasted in 1000s of these machines
throughout the country, assuming it is not Windows CE (it really looks
like 9x) and therefore the CPU is at least a pentium (operating speed is
quite ok. They will even find optimal connections for you in some
seconds) that is waiting for user entry 98% of the day.
