Following a suggestion here, I downloaded a copy of NetMail
from the NetTamer site and gave it a try. Unfortunately it
doesn't work for my ISP. The problem appears to be in its
PAP negotiation.

I've run NetMail in debug mode. It dials, it connects, so
far so good. But then: nothing. After a while, I hear
the modem click and NetMail prints: Loop Back!

My ISP definitely uses PAP. Arachne (without script) connects
to my ISP using PAP. ppp-on (under Linux) connects to my ISP
using PAP. But, NetMail (without script) fails. It appears
that NetMail is choking on the PAP negotiation. It's probably
relevant to point out that when I tried NetTamer (a couple of
years ago), I couldn't get it to connect to my ISP (the same ISP).

So, is something wrong with NetMail/NetTamer PAP negotiation?
Or, am I missing something obvious?

Perhaps someone knows of a way to tweak the PAP routine?
I've thought of writing a login script, but there's nothing
to script. I've logged on to my ISP using a terminal program
and it doesn't ask for username/password or anything like that
-- it just sits and waits (for PAP negotiation, I assume).

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Steven
