Hal:
About 8 years ago I ran a project "computers for Charities"
where we donated rebuilt XTs and 286s to local nonprofit
organisations and /or NGOs. Schools in poorer districts, parent
organisations or single mothers and anybody else who is providing
some sort of service to the community was eligible.
We spread the word on local BBSes, in interviews with the hosts of
local Radio/TV news and artcles in the local rags. Local news of the
TV/Radio is
the best bet. Once word gets out you will be swamped with donations
of old computers (Either just saved in the basement or left over
from upgrades etc).
We even had requests from remote towns as far 300 or 400 miles
away! Good luck.
