Subject: Re: PCWorks: Colorado Tape Drive for Backups

Ryan, I believe there is win drivers at hp's website for these. www.hp.com
(click on drivers). Magnetic media is very tempermental, not very reliable.
Tape drives cannot be used as a "send to" option in windows the way the 3.5"
floppy drive, LS120 drive or cdrw drive can be. They are for taking a
mirror copy of windows and a few programs only and restoring it (since it's
only 250mb). CDRW and LS120 drives; you can archive on these, backup all
your programs and save on these, but they are not capable of 'restoring' the
way a tape drive is. There MIGHT be some software now for restoring a hard
drive with the cdrw, but I can't recall. Tape drives are very slow, they
have to work linearly, have to search linearly, but on rotatable media
(LS120 and cdrw) is it much faster since they are not limited to a linear
search but can jump from sector to sector or track to track; ie, the heads
can move, heads are stationary on tape drives. So you have a choice to
make. HP expects you to pay for windows drivers for these drives, while
most companies have free downloads for theirs. If you look hard enough you
may be able to find some to download. In case you're interested, I sell
cdrw drives for $159 US and I have several tape back up devices for windows
all over 2gb. Send me an email if you want more info on these. If I happen
to find win drivers for the colorado drive, I'll let you know, please do the
same for me. HP bought out colorado btw, I have some Jumbo 120 and 250
drives myself that I'm trying to get win drivers for too.
