I WAS able to get the ``superior'' mail transport for Pegasus, called
smtpop12.zip working properly. You can download it at the Simtel archive,
and its documentation is fairly clear. I use it, of all things, to
mail out SOUP packets created by the YARN dos news/mail program.
Smtpop12 works fine with the Tony Lopez packet driver, epppd.exe --
the same one used by arachne.
So one way to use smtpop12 is to start arachne, escape out to dos,
and simply run smtpop12 -a or smtpop12 -b mail-server-name.
The main trick to making smtpop12 work is knowing what mail headers
it expects: It expects dos-like ^J^M characters for end of lines,
and Pegasus ``glue'' headers. If you run pegasus, just select
the glue type headers in setup. If not, glue headers look like this:
$$ <username@yourisp
T recipient's-address
C addresses of people getting copies
B addresses of people getting blind copies
Ordinary mail header goes here.
Message body goes here.
If you run smtpop12 -m It prompts you for information on one
or more mail servers. Then you can set it up to send/receive
mail to all of them at once or individually.
Good luck!
