I've found these with the help of previous answers.
Now comes the next tricky part, autodetecting the
sound card, since I assume the sound card needs
to be detected by the config.sys-configuration,
if it's going to connect to the CD-player.

The thing is, I can get my soundcard to work
from the DOS command line, with the help of some
DOS drivers that I found on the net, but I've
yet to figure out how to detect them at start-up,
and until now, there wasn't any need to.

You see, this card is am Aztech PnP 16-bit card,
also bought second-hand. It's somewhat modern because
it's plug and play, and when I first got it only came
with Win95 drivers. I had to search the net for DOS
drivers to work with this card. From what I gathered
these drivers weren't there to begin with, but
were written for Win95 users who wanted to run
the card in DOS-mode.

The driver file I load from DOS is called AZTPNP.EXE,
and when running from the command line it works just fine,
but when I tried to add it to config.sys it doesn't work,
the system locks up. I tried to add it like this, but
I'm obviously doing something wrong:
DEVICE=C:\AZT\AZTPNP.EXE

I'm also running DR-DOS rather DOS 6.22, maybe this
causes lock-up?

On the subject of the motherboard, my computer is
a 486SX-25 with a single 120Mb IDE hard drive, so
installing Win95 on this computer is not an option.

Actually, I'm considering buying a low-end Pentium,
I can feel the Microsoft representative breathing
down my neck, telling me how Win95 will solve all my
problems, autodetect my soundcard and CD-ROM drive,
etc. I have my eyes on a P60 (don't laugh) that I
can get very cheaply, it would interface well with
my other recently bought equipment, I think.
