But to get the importfilters for Word2, Wordperfect etc. you have to buy the CD, at 
least hat is how it was
until Sun bought Staroffice. Maybe you can not get them at all now.

It will hardly run on an older PC, I have a 133MHz Pentium with 48Mb RAM and a lot of 
patience for Staroffice
to start.

Do not try to download it without using Wget or similar, the filesizes are huge. I 
think it is worth it, you get a lot
more than in Microsoft Office (database is not included in the standardedition of 
MS-Office).

The great disadvantage of Staroffice is that it can not use other codepages than the 
Western European
properly.
