Heimo,
Words sometimes have different meanings in different cultures, even though
the language may be the same.
By literacy, I really mean literacy - ability to use a personal computer for
most elementary tasks, especially word processing. You may call it somewhat
equivalent to learning to use the typewriter.
The point is that most offices here now have personal computers but the
arrangements for teaching their use are limited or expensive. What my
organization, Danishkada, an NGO, plans to do is to teach computer literacy
to young people, who are desperate even for entry level clerical jobs in
offices but cannot afford normally available courses. The reason for seeking
486 and above is that anything below that will not make a person able to use
the latest computers.
I shall be grateful if you could help me in finding sources for used
personal computers, preferably as donation. Also sources for aid for the
promotion of education, knowledge and information.
For more information about Danishkada, please see its
Web site: www.farhan.com/danishkada

Best regards,

Best Muhammad Abd al-Hameed - what do you mean with "coumputer
literacy" ?

(My question is biased - I suspect the "...and above ['486s]" rather
inevitably means using Windows set-up machines: which inevitably means
to drill stupid application details and not learn, insight, "literacy".)
