Subject: Old Computer X Terminal
-----------------------------------------------------------
I tried this on the local LUG - no takers. Can anybody here advise?
I have a 386 which I have set up with Linux as an X terminal - it sets up OK with
the "lovely" moire pattern (4bit video is great - but it's all I can afford for now)
and
the floating X mid-screen.
This computer - "newdar" - is part of the network and functions fine - I can telnet in
to my target computer "newt" and run Lynx, etc.... all using console commands But I
can't figure out how to get it to serve X to "newt." I've read everything I can get my
hands on - an article by Ken Yap posted at news.tucows.com/ext2/99/01/xterm.html
an old one by Rich Kaszeta in Linux Gazette ( I don't have the URL) and as many
man pages as I can handle....it looks like it should be easy. But I can't make it work
I invoke X on newdar by typing "X -query 192.168.10.2" (that's address of newt).
I am using gdm and Gnome. What I'd like to have happen is that the gnome login
screen shows up on newdar for login to newt. Or failing that, I'd be content just to
run one app (Like Netscape) on newt but using newdar as the terminal.
Can someone advise...
TY,
Bob
