I can't say with100% certainty, but I'm not aware of MS having acquired
3Com. No doubt MS and 3Com/USR have a relationship (witness the evil
WinModem), but that's Hayes certainly could've formed some strategic
partnerships given their commanding position not all too long ago. I always
lusted after a Hayes modem, but never could afford the damned things. That,
I believe, has more to do with their demise than anything else.
