You can run a surface scan of a floppy disk, using Scandisk. It will
mark any bad clusters it finds and try to move data from the bad  clusters
to any available good ones. There are also freeware programs that will
replace portions of a bad partition table, and so on with good data.

In sum, the routine procedures one applies to a hard disk can also be
applied to floppies.

In the last few years I have been appalled at how easily and frequently
major brand, formatted floppies develop bad clusters and corrupt data.
I have been told that, since they are on the way out, companies are not
bothering with the quality control for floppies the way they used to in
the old days.
