I've got a versa E notebook computer, 486DX2 40 It's giving me an I/O error when I try to boot from the hard drive after partitioning and activating with fdisk and a clean format /s from bootable floppy. All the system files present, but it gives me that error. I've inputted the correct parameters in CMOS. I'm wondering if it's a fault in the controllor or the hard drive. I've tried two controllers, one suffered high impact, the other suffered hot insertion of an ide drive. This drive is another that is not known for certain as to good or bad function. No other complete machines are available for testing, but I may have access to another i/o board and will try that if so. I am wondering if there is something basic I've missed also. The system uses a basic I/O board with all I/O devices save keyboard and tiny system lcd. These two come off the motherboard, there is also a power board for the batteries. The IDE drive is swappable, but, sadly, not while the machine is on. bye,,,,,,,,,,,,,,(\ Yolanda ,,,,,,,,,,\\_/(\ UIN 4898262,,,..,,,Q Q \) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,=(_T_)= http://members.home.net/pippi5 {.. / .-.. --- ...- . / -... ..- -. -. .. . ... .-.-.- } A+ If I seem less than perfect, it's because I'm not properly placed.
