I'm sure there are whois clients for dos, though I've not run across one.
Unfortunately though, revcently internic changed tieir whois query, so
submitting a whois query now offers next to nothing regarding the domain
name.  Strangely enough though, their web based whois still offers the
same info the standard whois used to.  So, if you have the capability, use
the web-based query, and forget the command-line one.  I suppose, that I
could rig up a script runnable on unix that would perform the web query
from the commandline, but it would take a few tries to get it right I
think. :)
