Hi Folks, I just downloaded and installed FIX16550.SYS. Got it from http://www.zoomtel.com/techsprt/jumpers/html. As the name of the program might imply, it deals with a problem found with the 16550 UART chips that come with all high speed modems. It seems that certain types of motherboards, especially those having an AMIBIOS don't know how to deal with the UART properly. The program's author documents this problem and he has an interesting theory as to why we often find ourselves having to perform a cold reboot whenever the the connection goes bad. His program is designed to fix the problem. Well, my computer has an AMIBIOS, so I thought this program might help. I'll keep you all posted as to whatever results I get.
