it surely does, instead of the IDE-CDROM driver you'll need a specific
Mitsumi driver. What type is it?
extract from kernel docs:
Mitsumi standard
x This is the older of the two drivers for the older Mitsumi models x
x LU-005, FX-001 and FX-001D. This is not the right driver for the x
x FX-001DE and the triple or quad speed models (all these are x
x IDE/ATAPI models). Please also the file Documentation/cdrom/mcd. x
x x
x With the old LU-005 model, the whole drive chassis slides out for cd x
x insertion. The FX-xxx models use a motorized tray type mechanism. x
x Note that this driver does not support XA or MultiSession CDs x
x (PhotoCDs). There is a new driver (next question) which can do x
x this. If you want that one, say N here.

there is a programm called loadlin that can kick DOS out of the memory and
replace it with Linux. This way you can start Linux without a boot disk
or a bootable CD-ROM. This is my favorite way of installing on older computers.
On most Linux install CD's there is a directory called DOS or something alike.
inside you'll find loadlin.exe, a linux kernel, a root image and some docs and
a batch files to get things going. Copy all this to a directory on your
harddisk,
edit the batch for correct paths and run it to start a linux install.
If you need a non-standard kernel (eg because of your CD-ROM) you can just
replace the kernel in the loadlin dir. If you need to build a special kernel
drop me a line and I'll build one for you.
