I wouldn't say that Cyrix is no longer in business, just becasue they got bought out.  
I wonder how if this will change there relationship with
IBM?  The IBM 6x86 is an IBM built Cyrix chip.  I have the PR300 model in this 
computer.

I can't help with very much with specific models of chips, but it soundls like you 
have various models of 286 and 386 chips.  I think you
hade a few coprocessors for the 386 as well.  The AMD is an upgrade chip for the 486, 
but your MB needs to be able to handle the lower
voltage cpu.

That 386dx40, is exactly what it says.  It isn't an upgrade unless your board will 
change to 40mhz via jumpers.

I believe many of the chips are just standard chips made by "alternative" sources.
