Update version 4.01 of ReRead is now available, with improved indexing
service - re-indexing or update of index of a mail folder with newly
added items - and the "URL-grabber" facility integrated: grab/edit a WWW
source address from any text file, and launch an HTTP client (like HTGET
or a LYNX) to get it. This URL edit-on-the-fly has been improved, and
there is a verbose "how-to" in the program package.
ReRead v4.01 is available at its homepage,
www.inti.be/hammer ==> reread40.zip (ca. 156 KB; with doc's)
-- compact version ==> rread40x.zip (ca. 93 KB; executable only)
It has been uploades to SimTel (mirrors) too, look there under
==> /msdos/offline-readers/reread40.zip
ReRead is done strictly for the DOS Text Mode standard and uses only
DOS BIOS I/O functions, thus is speech/Braille friendly, and needs
only small memory resources.
ReRead is an offline reader for all types of directly downloaded
mail/news folders, for instance the MAIL.DLU type of Nettamer download
mail/news files, or of other mailers which store items directly as
downloaded (Netscape "folders" e.a.); it handles as well mail/news
stored as file series, like Netmail Pro's MAIL####.IN (and similar)
which store each message separately. And it is a general text file
lister, with hook-ins for editors and (e.a., HTML-) decoders.
Basic file handling functions allow to use it as a shell for general
DOS tasks, with ergonomical ways for "household" tasks.
The functional core of ReRead is a highly comfortable copy/paste (or
print) functionality with flexible target filename buffers, easy
switching between targets/sources and directory tree navigating, hot-key
invoking of editors and decoders. ReRead features:
Mail/File handling:
-- directory listing with point-and-do hotkeys for:
-- sort / copy / delete / edit / rename / print etc.
-- launching of other applications: e.g. the mailer
-- file listing (with adaptable layout)
-- hook-ins for (external) editors, decoders
-- cleaning of misplaced EOF-(^Z-)marks in folders
File and message listing:
-- any text file; and with special functionality for:
-- mail/news "folders", with integrated expansion of
"digest" mails
-- mail/news file series
-- "fuzzy" formatted message folders, especially digests
-- largely adaptable display format/measures
-- adaptable wrapping
-- switching character set mapping individually and
on-the-fly for single items listed
Message and text handling:
-- direct reply (Nettamer, Netmail format), with
-- quote selecting/formatting,
-- address automatical or freely selectable
-- linewise copy/paste (or print), with
-- highly flexible target selection (point-and-select)
from (editable) filename buffers
-- numbers of hook-ins, and easy switching in-between
them, for editors and decoders
-- easy scrolling / find / mark lines
-- on-the-fly marking for delete-/extract from folders
-- comprehensive indexing services (delete/keep/extract,
join files/threads etc.), with
-- delete-/extract-/reply-marks toggling
-- keep / delete / extract / join-append to file/folder
-- *NEW*: Grab and edit a URL from any displayed text,
with hook-in to launch an HTTP client to fetch it !
ReRead does *not* -- "attach" files automatically (a pain for mail
recipients; but you can do it manually)
-- encode automatically (but easily imports prepared
encoded files and pieces to send)
ReRead is designed to display text (and not its own program gimmicks;
it needs just 1 screen line for program messages; though all the
command key information is always available) and to handle easily.
All settings can be changed within the program but can be stored
permanently in a configuration file.
Fully functional free distribution though ReRead is (c) Copyright and
shareware. With registration, some recently added functionalities are
unlocked (colour settings, character remapping, and placement/measures
of buffer file windows).
