I figured you people on SURVPC and Arachne would find this one worth
reading. At least you'll know how and when the *.cnm extension
originated. Bjorn :)

Subject: Happy Birthday...
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

One weekend in November 1989, I wrote a mail program. It was a very
little mail program - it didn't do anything fancy, but it filled a
niche. Originally, the program was called "ComNet Mail" - for those of
you who are interested in trivial history, this is the origin of the
extension .CNM for a particular type of file.

On the basis that it might have been useful to other people as well, I
tidied it up a bit, and at some point in February 1990, made it
available on the Internet. I can't remember the exact date I released
it, but the first mail message I have about a program called Pegasus
Mail is dated February 15th 1990... So, February 15th it is.

Now, far beyond any expectation I ever had, Pegasus Mail is
celebrating its tenth birthday. Ten years... Gee; it seems like an
eternity in this industry. Not many software packages last that long -
usually something happens to kill them off long before then; but the
wings are still flapping on this one.

It's all quite emotional, really. As I write this message, I'm sipping
a glass of bubbly and thinking of you all: thank you all for your
support, your interest, your feedback and your friendship over the
last ten years; I hope you'll keep me company as we explore the next
ten.

Cheers!
