Hello fellow list members!!

Once again, I'll keep this note brief, since it's mailed to four lists.
As you may recall, I wrote about used computers offered for the cost
of shipping and handling (several days ago).

Mary Stubson, the IS lady of St. Vincent Hospital, Billings, Montana,
has been very, very pleased with your eager responses! Yesterday,
she told me that she spoke with our Materials Management Manager
(Spencer Smith, an old dear friend of mine) who's in charge of the
warehouse of those used computers:

'Well, Spencer, I have people to send those computers to,' she said,
'Now... how will we pack them?'

'I'll have the people,' he said.

Spencer is over our Distribution Department warehouse and will no
doubt have volunteers or paid workers pack up those PCs for you folks.

Both Mary and Spencer are delighted to help you all, as well as
clear out their bulging warehouse! So the computers are safe!

I might add that among the 486s, there are also 386s and 286s, so
communicate your needs/desires clearly to Ms. Stubson whenever she
talks/writes to you. She has said that there are plenty of monitors for
these systems -- there are a lot of IBM machines -- and they have their
"insides" and keyboards, too. And be sure to ask her about anything
else she may like to get rid of. It's hard to believe, but not even
Computer Renaissance (locally!) is accepting 486s anymore -- and the
public landfill won't even allow the dumping of good monitors!

Finally -- remember that you're doing more than just getting computers
for the cost of shipping and handling. You're setting up a *public*
precedent for the efficient, proper dispersion of reusable computer
resources that are especially important for those less privileged than
ourselves. I am accepting NONE of these computers for myself, so that
all of you can have a chance for something. Besides, I don't have the
room... ;-)

I'll accept further requests until Monday morning. We now have about
two dozen requests, and I think that's going to be enough with whatever
else comes in by then...

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!!!
