Dear folks,

Well, now I've got a problem for which I need some help.

I've a computer which I have been asked to service (for my sister-in-
law) and I am trying to get it to function properly. When it boots up,
it does the memory test/check/count, and then displays:

"Please wait for fixed disk 80 to spin up."
 which is rapidly replaced by:
"Please wait for fixed disk 81 to spin up."
where it pauses for about 100 secs. before continuing

The system had two IDE drives in it, and the second drive has just
been removed. When it is returned, the machine almost immediatly
starts and boots DOS, like it should.

It is evident to me that I have to set the CMOS to not have the
second hard drive parameters. However, I have no information on
how to do this.

The motherboard is a 486 VL-bus motherboard, with (C) 1993 RYC
on it, and very little other silkscreening. There are a number of
chips which have IBM labels on them, and I am unable to reach the
BIOS at this time, because it is under the floppy/hard drive bays,
and I haven't had the opportunity to disassemble it enough to look
at it. The system does report "486BL CPU / 75.2 MHz" at startup,
but no other information is displayed, other than the video card's
ROM information.

Is this an IBM motherboard? I know that it isn't original to the case
that it's in, and if I recall correctly, IBM is the only one that
manufactured the 486BL processor. [I'm guessing that it's a clock-
tripled chip.] I'd expect more positive silk-screened identification
for IBM boards, though.

I've tried the standard F1, F2, and DEL keys to try to get the
CMOS configuration to come up, without success. Do I need a
configuration disk? Anyone have experience with this kind of
motherboard?
