you might want to persue a college education in computer programming,
computer languages or computer sciences, depending on how the institute
describes it.  checking used book stores for old books on caring for
computers can help.
Firing up that old BASIC computer, writing littling proggies, stuff like
that.  Learn to write programs, and you'll be on your way.
Also, there are numerous online aids to studying how to program, heck, I've
got some on CD, little html textbooks I picked up in the shadows somewhere.
Don't be frustrated, be more investigative!
