I actually have a rule like that, never wanna drive a car newer than
'75. Because that seems to be when they figured out planned
obsolescence. Mostly it's arbitrary and I don't doubt there are exceptions
to that, but it's fairly safe to stick with that rule of thumb. Older than
that and you can likely fix it in your backyard. Newer, and it requires
fancy crap and lots of $$. OTOH,when they make an affordable hydrogen
fueled car, I'm in! I'd go for a solar car too, anything that produces
zero emmissions from renewable resource will do.
