With mine it was Godzilla movies (the oroginal Japanese ones).
I had a wonderfully low-tech gadget called an Itty-Bitty
Booklight.  While my son was down in the front row screaming his
little voice into oblivion, I was in the back row reading Larry
Niven or Frank Herbert, the Greek Myths, Jung, or something
else...  I don't know how other parents ever got along without
the Itty Bitty Booklight <grin>.

Odd, it sounds as if you are older than me yet your kids are
younger than mine, Power Rangers are definitely post-childhood
for my son.  But I started young....
