I think a lot of us would like to get into the internet with surviving pcs.

A lot of hercules monitors are laying around without use.
Here in Argentina they have no value at all.

I regularly use a 486 with an hercules monitor to do all my internet work.
I use Lynx for html, Pmail 3.50 for mail, Minuet for news and FTP.
I tried to use Arachne with hercules using a CGA simulator but the
results are terrible.

I just discovered that if you have a computer with a hercules graphic
card and you load Windows 3.1, it runs quite nicely.

But the surprice is that you can use Internet Exploder and
Internet Mail included in IE3 without a VGA or superVGA monitor
as Micro$oft specifies.

You have to use it without images, although JPG images are
automatically converted to hercules, GIF are not recogniced.

Now when any graphic browser needs at least 500 kbytes of video
memory, its amazing how satisfactory can be an Hercules monitor
with less than 48 kBytes of video memory navigating the net using
IE3.

Next week I will try to load IE5 and Outlook Express ver. 5 for Win 3.1
and see if it also runs in Hercules mode.

It has been several years that DOS users are asking Michel Polak for an
Hercules ARACHNE. After seeing IE3 in this mode, I think it has very good
posibilities.

This letter is sent both to the Arachne and SurvPc lists, using MS
Internet Mail for Win 3.1 with an Hercules monitor.
