Regretfully, my ISP's shell is no longer accessible by serial
connection and terminal comm program (e.g., telex, qmodem, etc.).
I am fairly OK with using clarksen universities CUTCP/CUTE telnet
except for a dilemma with their ftp:
File transfer with this telnet seems only possible using ftp. They
advertise rcp and rsh, but I can not make them work. Ordinarily,
one can ``autologin'' to a ftp session by creating lines line this
in a file called .netrc:
machine mypc's-ipaddress
login howard
password somepassword
But if you try this with CUTCP's built in ftp server you get the
error message:
.netrc wrong mode
either change mode or remove password
Than you must manually enter a password every time. There is little
documentation on this version of ftp and I do not know how to
``change to mode'' to CUTCP's satisfaction. It appears it only has
one mode called ``stream''.
Are there any ftp experts out there that can tell me how to make
the ftp in CUTCP accept an ordinary autologin? I ask because I
dont want to manually enter 4 or 5 commends every time I want to
transfer a file to my PC.
Any help accepted thankfully
