Another problem is the JPEG format in itself - each decompression/
recompression makes it loose information. After three-four steps this
can be seen clearly. Thus best to decode the JPG once into a
non-destructive format (TIFF or PCX), and then go on from there.
(And there are quite a number of good pixel progs to use these formats.
With the DOS machine and Herc monitor, I still use ol' Painbrush:
gives excellent quality control.)
