I used a phone battery on my grandmothers 286.  I probably wouldn't do
it again, However.  It was about $9 at Radio Shack, and I have so many
real clock batteries out of other computers now.  I doubt it provides
any real improvement.  Unless maybe you only use your computer once or
twice a month :-)  Thats what my grandmother did, but the original
battery in her 286 was corroding, that way I replaced it, not for charge
longevity.

My computers stay on all the time, so charging isn't a problem.
