Why so? If "host not found", then perhaps because of that "sun
outtage". The problem was "walked" through ISPs: my ISP, Collaborium,
Stuttgart, Trieste, and so on... Weird, something like cyber "solar
eclipse" <g>. But it was temporary, just wait a few minutes then
try again! ;-)

Probably there's no need to reinvent the wheel? There are some ready
to use scripts for that purpose:

SurvPC 1.02 is almost finished anyway... I'll see if I could
"assimilate" one of those scripts to automate your survey. But don't
rely on it, no promises! ;-)

Since its more anonymous, such web survey might encourage more people
to participate, but the results probably inaccurate. IP address could
be shared (IPmasq, proxy, anonymizer, etc.), so it won't be so reliable
as voter identity. The only thing left probably persistent cookies, but
then, cookies are not supported by all browsers and could easily deleted.
Or perhaps using email confirmation like LISTSERV will help?

BTW, anyone know how long is the maximum filename under Linux/UNIX?
And what characters are allowed? TIA.
