I've taught computer classes for years, with a pretty even male to female
ratio.
The women are better using the software, the men are better with the
hardware. The best troubleshooting teams are always composed of both male
and female. In general the Asians are the best with the software and the
Hispanics are the best with the hardware. This is not scientific research
but just my observations over the last 5 years.
