I found what seem a very nifty partitioning utility, "Partition
Manager" ("partit.zip") by Mikhail Ranish - version 2.37 is still
freeare and can treat up to 8GB disks. The program looks like a
somewhat more "manual", but then even more fine-tuning kin to
"Partition Magic.

Has anyone used it, and knows about specific things to be aware of ?

The task I want to use it for may be a bit tricky: re-arrange the
partitioning on a laptop (Toshiba Satellite 300) 2.1 GB Hd, where
there is a well-working installation of an additional Linux besides of
the original Win$98 only. With the Linux install, I left some space
(<200M) "empty" where I want to put in a "real", (LILO-)bootable DOS.
And this then is the problem, as the Win$-crippledos would not allow
that on its "C:" partition. Furthermore, this Toshiba has a firmware,
either as an IPL (initial program loader) or maybe even in ROM - which
may be the thing that brings up the firm logo on the screen when the
laptop is fired up, and (in addition?) shields off any any direct access
to the BIOS/CMOS entries.

The Doc in Partition Manager describes that it (can) rewrite(s) this
IPL, and this might be a blessing - or precisely a problem.
So I wonder if i could use it without the risk to annihilate long
hours of earlier installation chore.
